- Compatible for Insulating Glass Glazing
- Excellent Adhesion to Most Surfaces
- Low Odor, Non-Acetic Cure Formula
CRL RTV408 Industrial and Construction Silicone is a neutral cure, medium modulus, 100% Silicone Sealant that cures to a tough, flexible rubber when exposed to moisture. RTV408 features primerless adhesion to: aluminum, stainless steel, most plastics, rigid PVC (vinyl), phenolic resin, glass, ceramic, and most reflective-coated glasses. All surfaces must be properly cleaned and the sealant tooled for good adhesion. Cat. No. S1L2100 Primer may be required for these and other substrates as well.
BASIC USES: Its fast cure time and easy tooling make it ideal for many in-house production applications; and it is non-corrosive to most building materials such as glass (including insulating glass), tiles, and sanitary equipment. It seals curtainwall joints; vinyl, steel and aluminum windows; and skylights. It is also used in vehicles, ships, aircraft, as well as for electrical insulation. This silicone does not cause corrosion in contact with metals. It is suitable for alkaline materials such as mortar and cement, and other applications where metal corrosion could be a problem. CRL RTV408 stays flexible and is resistant to cracking or becoming brittle in a wide range of temperatures approximately -65° to 400°F (-54° to 204°C). It can be applied at outdoor temperatures as low as -20°F (-29°C), provided that surfaces are clean, dry and frost-free, or on surfaces as high as 100°F (38°C). RTV408W and RTV408T contain a fungicide, and the cured sealant is mildew resistant.
Available in Custom Colors. Minimum order quantity is 30 cartridges and for any quantity ordered there is a plus or minus of approximately 10-25% that will be produced and shipped since custom colors are made by the batch. Lead time is 3 to 5 weeks.
All CRL Silicone Sealant cartridges are packed with innovative Screw-On Nozzles, offering you a greater yield per tube. They are 4" (102 mm) long, and tapered so you can trim the nozzle to exactly the bead size you need. To order additional nozzles, specify Cat. No. S1LN0Z.
LIMITATIONS: It is not recommended for concrete and stone expansion joints; horizontal decks, patios, driveway or terrace joints where abrasion or physical abuse is encountered; sealing submerged joints, particularly where porous surfaces permit water infiltration to the bond surface; interior or exterior structural sealing below the waterline in marine applications; structural glazing; food contact or potable water applications; mirrors. Check cartridge label and Specification Data Sheet for additional limitations.
Technical Data: Meets or exceeds Federal Specifications: TT-S-001543A (COM-NBS) Class A, for silicone building sealants; TT-S-00230C (COM-NBS) Class A, for one-component silicone sealants; ASTM C-920 for elastomeric joint sealants, Type S, Grade NS, Class 25, Use NT, G, A and O; CAN/CGSB 19.13-M87. AAMA 802.3-10 Type II, 803.3-10 Type I, and 808.3-10. Meets California Air Resources Board 2003 requirements for Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) content. Qualifies for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) credit.
